Why do I need a Windows Live ID to sign up for Microsoft Office Live?

Your Windows Live ID is the sign-in name and password that you use when signing in to use Microsoft Office Live. A Windows Live ID enables you to sign in to many different Web sites using just one identity, and the Windows Live ID service also helps Web site providers manage identity and trust issues for their sites.

When signing up, you can choose from the following options for your Windows Live ID:

Use an existing Windows Live ID If you have an existing e-mail account that is associated with a Windows Live ID (for example, Windows Live Hotmail), you already have a Windows Live ID and can use that e-mail account to sign in.

Create a Windows Live ID You can create a new Windows Live ID by identifying an existing e-mail address that you want to be your Windows Live ID. Doing this will not change your e-mail in any way; you still receive and read your e-mail through whatever e-mail program you have used in the past.
